‘Repeal Withholding Now’ is a project of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Government Withholding Relief Coalition, as part of our collective efforts to repeal the 3% Withholding Tax — another obstacle for small businesses when they should be focused on building their business and creating jobs.
Similar to how the 1099 reporting mandate was hidden in the ‘Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act,’ the 3% Withholding Tax is a far-reaching mandate inserted into the Tax Reconciliation Act of 2005 at the last minute. The 3% Withholding Tax will go into effect on January 1, 2013, if not repealed; and will negatively impact millions of businesses, farmers, doctors and hospitals, as well as state and local governments.
The U.S. Chamber is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations. With more than 96% of membership comprised by small businesses, the U.S. Chamber is fighting to ensure they have a voice in Washington on the issues that impact their ability to succeed and drive our economic recovery.
